There are over 32,000 known species of fish in the world. Out of them, almost 27,000 species include bony fish. Bony fish are the most common and widespread type of fish.

They are found in freshwater and saltwater habitats all over the world. The other main types of fish are jawless fish, cartilaginous fish, and Plated skin fish. Jawless fish are the oldest type of fish and are thought to have evolved from a common ancestor with lampreys. Cartilaginous fish include sharks, rays, and skates.

They are characterized by their tough, flexible skeletons made of cartilage instead of bone. Plated skinned fish include armor-plated fishes such as sturgeons and paddlefishes.

Types of fish in the world

Cod

There are many different types of cod fish in the world. The most common are the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) and the Pacific cod (Alaska Cod, True Cod, Gray Cod, Tara, Codfish). Both of these cod fish are found in cold water and deeper sea regions. They are also both economically important marine food fishes.

Salmon

There are six main types of salmon in the world: king, sockeye, chum, coho, and pink salmon. All of them are commercially important and play a vital role in the ecosystem.

The Pacific coast is home to five of these species, chinook, coho, chum, sockeye, and pink salmon. Out of all the types of salmon, chinook salmon is the biggest fish. Not only are they an important part of the food chain, but they are also very popular among fisherman and provide a great source of recreation.

Halibut

There are three types of halibut, the Pacific, Atlantic, and common halibut. The Pacific halibut is the largest type of flatfish and can reach up to 15 feet in length. It is a popular fish for eating and is found in the non-tropical regions of the Northern Pacific.

The Atlantic halibut is the second largest type of flatfish and can reach up to 10 feet in length. It is found in the cold waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. The common halibut is smaller than both the Pacific and Atlantic halibut and only reaches a maximum length of 5 feet. It is found in both the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans.

Sardines

There are many different types of fish in the world and each one is unique in its own way. One type of fish that is particularly interesting is the sardine. Sardines are small, silvery, elongated fishes with a single short dorsal fin, no lateral line, and no scales on the head. They range in length from about 15 to 30 cm.

In the US there are two primary species: the Atlantic Sardine Sardina pilchardus (European Pilchard) and the Sardinops sagax (Pacific Sardine).

Sardines are an important food source for many larger forms of marine life. They are also a popular type of fish for humans to eat. This is due to their high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for human health. While true sardines only live in the Atlantic Ocean, other species are often sold as sardines. One example is the “Pacific Sardine” or Sardinops
